Italy Part 1

Well I should do this before I forget absolutely everything!! ITALY…was alright. Haha no just kidding, it was absolutely amazing! Everything about it, I definitely needed more then a couple of days in each place to explore everything!

So I’ll start with Milan…because that was my first city! Milan isn’t a very touristy city…meaning there isn’t that much to do. On the first day I went to the Duomo (or the Cathedral) which is supposedly the 3rd largest in the world (but it seems to me that a few cathedrals have that claim, see post on Sevilla). It wasn’t too cool. I’ve realized that the Italian churches don’t have as much to offer as the Spanish ones. After that we (my friend Elizabeth (hey liz) from UP who is studying there) and I did some shopping…of course, I mean come on, it’s Milan!! Then she made me an Italian dinner with pesto risotto and chicken…mmm yummy! That night we went out and let me tell you something…Milan has got quite a night scene. We ended up going to this club…which happened to be called The Club and Kate Moss was the guest DJ there. And they are very into the VIP, which you don’t see in Spain, and we just walked right in…due to the blonde hair!! We went to catch a taxi home but I bet you didn’t know that in Milan it is illegal to hail a cab so needless to say it was slightly difficult!

Mmm the next day we went to the really old castle that had a museum in it of all this old art work and it all so had Leonardo Divinci’s notebook. It was so interesting to see how his code looked…gosh that man was a genius. I mean come on…who writes everything in code?? Sometimes my writing may look like code but it’s just sloppy (especially when I’m trying to take notes and I’m falling asleep). This museum also had an ancient Egypt section (don’t ask me why) and there were some mummies just chilling there. It was amazing to see but also kind of disgusting at the same time.

Oh so I tried to go see Leonardo Divinci’s Last Supper but guess what…you can only get in with reservations (which none of the guide books tell you) and they are sold out until the end of May. Man why did that book have to be such a best seller?? So then we ate really good gelato and walked around the city a little bit. Then I left her and went back to the Duomo because it was a really nice day and I wanted to go to the top so I could get a good view of the city. FYI it wasn’t that great. But I spent a nice hour or so up there!

That night we got invited to go to this VIP club…seriously it was VIP only. We had a reserved table and everything. While we were there just dancing away, the candidate that actually ended up winning the position of Prime Minister came in and started handing out flyers, and lighters with his name all over them. It was crazy…that’s how VIP it was.

The next day was the lovely morning market which had everything you could ever want including pots and pans. Then I hopped on the train to Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is a group of 5 small cities built on the cliffside of the Mediterranean Sea. I got there and dropped off my stuff at the hostel just in time to start the hike through three of the towns during sunset. It was absolutely gorgeous…a perfect honeymoon spot! Perhaps someday I shall go back. But I had a lot of alone time on my hike and then I ate dinner at this really cute little spot…mmm good Italian food!! That was pretty much the extent of my trip in Cinque Terre!

I posted some of Shannon's pictures from Italy so you can kind of get an idea. http://community.webshots.com/user/madmorepics

WOW! I'm so excited for you - what a trip. You went to the same places Pat and I did six years ago. In fact, I have some of those exact same shots in my photo albums! Bizarre. I love love love Vernazza, Chinqe Terra was such a magical place for me, I could spend the rest of my life there, really.
Did you go to Boboli Gardens in Florence - neat place. Miss you - we're moving back this summer so we'll have to catch up later.
